Recurrence at ankle sprain is common because of the factor that ankle sprains create foot/ ankle complex instability. Ankle instability leads to cartilage degeneration thereby increasing the risk of post traumatic ankle osteoarthritis.

Among the wide varieties of reason for recurrent ankle sprains a few most common are joint position sense impairment, weak isometrics strength in multiple planes of motion, weak postural control on affected and non affected side, impaired temporal and spatial parameters of gait. It is experienced that it is not only ligamentous laxity but the collection of adaptation brought by acute ankle sprains that leads to decreased functional performances of the ankle.
