Scoliosis is a sideways  ( left or right ) curvature of the spine in thoracic or lumbar region. While scoliosis can be caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, it can also be acquired by faulty posture.
Postural  cases of scoliosis are mild and can be corrected with early intervention, but some children develop spine deformities when scoliosis turns out to be functional that continue to get more severe as they grow. It is disabling.
An especially severe spinal curve can reduce the amount of space within the chest, making it difficult for the lungs to function properly.
Patients who have mild scoliosis are monitored closely, usually with X-rays or skiagram, to see the progress of curve. In many cases, physiotherapy treatment is necessary and it does alot of work. Some children will need to wear a brace. A few may need surgery to keep the scoliosis from worsening and to straighten severe cases of scoliosis.
